Publication of the article: “Childhood and Pandemic: Chronicle of an Absence Foretold”

Ester Massó Guijarro, researcher at FiloLab, has published the article “Childhood and Pandemic: Chronicle of an Absence Foretold” in Salud Colectiva (vol. 17, 2021), the magazine of the National University of Lanús (Argentina). It is an open access magazine indexed in the Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus amongst others. Here is the abstract of the article:

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that childhood is the global south of the virus: a world where care is not a freely chosen value and where children’s voices are being silenced in virtue of a long-held epistemic injustice. Thus, the transformation that societies are going through due to the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on children’s rights on both a small and a large scale. In Spain, a country particularly affected by the pandemic, early childhood (though obstetric violence) as well as other stages of childhood are victims of an adult-centred paradigm of control and structural epistemic injustice. This essay analyses and discusses some of the negative consequences of the pandemic in Spain for child care and children and families’ quarantine. It considers the economic crisis deriving from the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to raise awareness on long-held situations of injustice towards children”.
