Ester Massó Guijarro received her PhD in 2009 at the University of Granada. She graduated from Philosophy and Social and Cultural Anthropology (2003) from the same university and has a MA in International Cooperation at the University of Granada and the University of Santiago de Compostela (2005). She was a visiting researcher at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais at the University of Lisbon (Portugal), the University of Windhoek (Namibia) and the Nordiska Afrikainstitutet of Uppsala (Sweden).

She has been a predoctoral researcher (FPU) at the University of Granada and a post-doc (JAE DOC) at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) (Madrid). She is the editor of the International Journal of Sociology and Anthropology, an external evaluator of the ANEP and an associate editor of a number of scientific journals, such as REIS (Center for Sociological Research), E-Cadernos CES (Centro de Estudos Sociais of the University of Coimbra, Portugal), Ethos Venezolana (University Alonso de Ojeda, Venezuela), Revista Internacional de Ciencias Sociales Interdisciplinares, Dilemata, RDTP-CSIC and the International Journal of Sociology and Anthropology.

Areas of research

Her research interests have focused on three aspects, which are related to her predoctoral research, postdoctoral research and teaching. These are:

The Caprivian Independence in Namibia (conflicts related to postcolonial frontiers in Sub-Saharan Africa).

Social transformations caused by the Sub-Saharan migratory diaspora (especially, the Senegalese diaspora) and the resulting identitarian hybridism, with a special emphasis on the Muridiyya Brotherhood.

Human lactation, dissident corporeality and feminisms.

She was a member of the research project "Human Rights and Global Justice in the context of International Migrations" (FFI2013-42521-P), funded by MINECO (National Plan I+D+i), and the PAI Research Group "Antropología y Filosofía". She was also a member of seven research projects funded by local (University of Granada), autonomous (Junta de Andalucía), national (MICINN-MINECO) and European (Seventh Framework Programme-EU) entities.
