PRESENTACIÓN

Como Roland Barthes advertía, “en la multiplicidad de la escritura, todo debe ser desenredado, no necesariamente descifrado”, puesto que cualquier texto literario existe y cobra significación no ya en relación con su autor u autora, sino con una miríada de artefactos culturales previos con los que este texto mantiene un diálogo perpetuo. Estamos firmemente convencidos de que las relaciones intertextuales que posibilitan la hermenéutica misma (o la inscripción de un sentido o sentidos determinados) no se limitan simplemente a un jardín de senderos bifurcados o a una biblioteca borgiana neta o exclusivamente literaria. Muy al contrario, consideramos que, por su propia concepción y génesis, cualquier artefacto cultural está firmemente vinculado a otros muchos, provenientes de ámbitos casi infinitamente diversos. De este modo, la literatura parece invitarnos a aproximarnos a su disfrute, estudio e interpretación desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar. El objetivo principal de este encuentro científico es precisamente el de plantear un espacio de reflexión en el que se dialogue y debata sobre textos literarios a partir de sus vínculos y conexiones no ya solo con otras artes sino también con disciplinas científicas diversas. A modo de ejemplos, el seminal poema anglosajón Beowulf no comienza a desvelarnos su rico caudal de calidad literaria e información socio-cultural si no es cuando se le estudia junto con los hallazgos arqueológicos de Sutton Hoo; la novelística de Thomas Pynchon resultaría casi indescifrable sin aproximarnos a su enigmático esplendor sin valernos de la filosofía… pero también de conceptos provenientes de la física, como la termodinámica; el Julio César literario de Shakespeare puede estudiarse junto con la historia de Roma… al mismo tiempo que la manera en que entendemos al personaje histórico de César a día de hoy está condicionado por su alter ego literario. Podríamos seguir tomando ejemplos de la biblioteca infinita a la que referíamos y nos perderíamos cada vez en los jardines divergentes de la interdisciplinariedad hasta desaparecer en un océano de interconexiones y diálogos que no cesaría de crecer y fusionarse.

PROPUESTAS

Invitamos a remitir propuestas en inglés o español. Las mismas deben incluir un resumen (máximo 300 palabras), junto con 3-5 palabras clave, referencias bibliográficas y una breve presentación biográfica (máximo 200 palabras). Todo ello puede remitirse a: javier.martin@uco.es y/o
info@literaryconnectionsconference.es o simplemente rellenar el formulario que facilitamos en la web.
Las propuestas deben estar relacionadas con las siguientes líneas u otras que se aproximen al estudio de la literatura de manera transversal y multidisciplinar:

• Literatura comparada.
• Traducción y literatura.
• Lingüística y literatura.
• Literatura e imagen: poesía visual, cine, novela gráfica…
• Nuevas manifestaciones culturales, del grafiti a los videojuegos y la literatura.
• Historia y literatura.
• Ciencias experimentales y literatura.
• Tecnociencia y literatura
• Filosofía/s y literatura.
• Religión y literatura.
• Educación y literatura.
• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) vs STEAM (Science,
  Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

En el contexto sanitario en que nos vemos envueltos en el presente momento, resultaría profundamente temerario e inconsciente aspirar a celebrar una reunión científica presencial, por mucho que el debate se enriquezca en las distancias cortas y que necesitemos en estos momentos de nuestra familia extensa académica para sobrellevar la pandemia y todo lo que ésta lleva aparejado. De este modo, nos vemos abocados a coincidir de manera virtual. Así pues, combinaremos ponencias y conferencias síncronas (mediante un sistema gratuito de teleconferencias) con otras asíncronas que se podrán remitir grabadas con anterioridad al inicio del Congreso.
Para facilitar el debate entre conferenciantes, ponentes y asistentes al congreso, también se habilitarán unas salas en la página web:

El pago de cuotas da derecho a presentar una ponencia, recibir un certificado de asistencia, un certificado de ponencia y a la publicación en uno de los volúmenes resultantes (previa evaluación científica).

PUBLICACIONES RESULTANTES DEL CONGRESO

Dos editoriales de máxima calidad académica han mostrado su interés en publicar las aportaciones que superen el proceso de evaluación (situadas entre los 5 primeros puestos del ránking SPI), en un volumen en castellano y otro en inglés.

INTRODUCTION

As Roland Barthes pointed out in 1967, “in the multiplicity of writing, everything must be disentangled, nothing deciphered”, suggesting that literary texts exist in relation to a myriad of previous cultural artifacts regardless of their author. Texts thus also become meaningful in establishing fruitful and ongoing dialogues. The intertextual connections that allow hermeneutics itself—or the inscription of any given meaning/s—are not limited
to a garden of forking paths in an exclusively literary Borgian library. On the contrary, from its very conception, any literary artifact is linked to many others that emerge from an almost infinite number of different fields of knowledge. Consequently, it seems as if literature insisted on being enjoyed, studied and analyzed from a multidisciplinary perspective. The main goal of this academic meeting is to offer a space for scholarly reflection on the
connections existing among diverse literary texts as well as with other arts and scientific disciplines. Several examples illustrate this point. The Anglo Saxon seminal poem Beowulf only unveils its literary richness and the socio-cultural information it contains when studied together with the archaeological findings of Sutton Hoo. Thomas Pynchon’s narrative remains opaque without considering what it draws from the fields of Philosophy and Physics. Similarly, Shakespeare’s dramatic Julius Caesar gains depth in its confrontation with the historical character while our understanding of the historical character is heavily influenced by its literary alter ego. Thus, this library proves itself endless as one gets lost in the forking paths of interdisciplinarity.

PROPOSALS

Contributions are accepted both in English and Spanish. Please, send your abstract (300 words maximum), together with 3 to 5 keywords, references and a short biodata (up to 200 words) to: javier.martin@uco.es and/or info@literaryconnectionsconference.es.
Online submissions are also welcomed.
We invite scholars from all over the world to send proposals which explore the following multidisciplinary and transversal approach to literary analysis:

• Translation and literature.
• Linguistics and literature.
• Literature and imagen/s: visual poetry, films, graphic novels, etc.
• Literature and/as new cultural manifestations: from graffiti to video games.
• Literature and History.
• Phiilosophy/ies and literature.
• Religion/s and literature.
• Education and literature: teaching literature and using literature to teach.
• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) vs STEAM (Science,
  Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

Due to the current pandemic, it would be reckless to celebrate this conference in a traditional way. So, the Conference will be held virtually through synchronous and asynchronous participations. Synchronous events will take place through a free and reliable teleconference service. In turn, asynchronous presentations can be recorded and emailed to the conference organizers to be stored and displayed in the conference
website. Chat rooms will also be made available to foster academic debate at: www.literaryconnectionsconference.es.

Two top-tier publishing houses, placed in the first positions of Scholarly Publishing Indicators Ranking, have shown a keen interest in publishing a peer reviewed version of the papers accepted for the Conference. The organizing committee is planning to have these publications in the two languages accepted in the Conference.
