  • European Researchers’ Night

The European Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide public event, which displays the diversity of science and its impact on citizens’ daily lives in fun, inspiring ways.

This year, the event took place in 26 countries on Friday 29 September 2023, including Granada, Spain where our research group made an interactive informative talk with examples as mini-experiments. We talked about the growing problem of obesity in our society and how thermogenic mechanisms, which physiologically are responsible for thermoregulation, are a promising therapeutic target. The different types of adipocytes that we can find as well as their functions were shown with experiments, being brown fat a thermogenic target (as well as muscle). Subsequently, we talked about how to induce this thermogenesis through healthy lifestyle habits: doing sports, sleeping well (importance of melatonin), balanced nutrition (importance of nutraceuticals), etc.

The European Researchers’ Night aims to

  • bring research and researchers closer to the public
  • promote excellent research projects across Europe and beyond
  • increase the interest of young people in science and research careers
  • showcase the impact of researchers’ work on people’s daily lives

This international event attracts each year more than 1.5 million visitors in Europe and beyond.
