This title suggests a reflection on how linguistic changes influence the configuration of societies given that, in an increasingly diverse, global and interconnected world, language is an essential tool for representing social complexity. In this case, applied linguistics can provide new interpretations of patterns of linguistic change and variation, as well as explain the role that language plays in the articulation of social identities and in the creation and\/or modification of linguistic communities. This conference aims to be a space for dialogue to reflect on how language reflects and shapes social diversity.
