L2 Spa and L1 Spa &#8211; L2 Eng) from a formal (linguisitc) perspective.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>PhD (2003, University of Essex) <a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/10481\/22164\">Universal Grammar and Focus Constraints: The Acquisition of pronouns and word order in non-native Spanish<\/a> [PhD supervisor: <a title=\"Rober Hawkins\" href=\"http:\/\/privatewww.essex.ac.uk\/~roghawk\/\">Roger Hawkins<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In particular, I am interested in:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>L2 syntax<\/strong>: The acquisition of syntactic phenomena by non-native speakers of a second language.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>lexicon-syntax interface in SLA<\/strong>: The syntactic effects (word order alternations) of two special certain lexical classes (unaccusatives vs. unergatives) and their acquisition in L2 (both Spanish and English).<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>syntax-discourse interface in SLA<\/strong>: the syntactic effects of discursive phenomena (topic, contrastive focus and presentational focus) and their acquisition in L2. This is a novel area, as little research has been done on this.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learner corpora<\/strong>: the creation and use of large language data (corpora) to investigate properties of the L2.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research methods and statistics in SLA<\/strong>: experimental design and descriptive &amp;
