Este art\u00edculo argumenta en contra de esta visi\u00f3n epist\u00e9mica del \u00abMindreading\u00bb bas\u00e1ndose en diferentes estudios emp\u00edricos en Ling\u00fc\u00edstica y en Psicolog\u00eda social y del desarrollo: nuestra capacidad de atribuci\u00f3n de estados mentales est\u00e1 sistem\u00e1ticamente sesgada, y muchos usos cotidianos de las oraciones de atribuci\u00f3n mental no reflejan una funci\u00f3n epist\u00e9mica en nuestras interacciones sociales. En su lugar, introducimos una visi\u00f3n alternativa de las atribuciones mentales, la \u00absocial cover view\u00bb, que es consistente con la evidencia disponible. La \u00absocial cover view\u00bb sostiene que la funci\u00f3n principal de las atribuciones mentales es proteger el status social y la reputaci\u00f3n de un agente m\u00e1s que tener conocimiento de sus procesos y estados internos.
