En este art\u00edculo el autor argumenta que las categor\u00edas que un sujeto usa para codificar sus percepciones son elementos emergentes del nicho social que habita su comunidad. Por ende, defiende que las categor\u00edas son primariamente elementos de la ontolog\u00eda social que un determinado sujeto experimenta. En consecuencia, argumenta que las representaciones p\u00fablicas (ej. iconos) compartidas en un nicho social juegan un papel regulativo crucial para los miembros de dicha comunidad: en efecto, estas ofrecen una regla (un canon) para concebir un determinado tipo o una determinada categor\u00eda, ej. \u2018movimiento\u2019, \u2018tiempo\u2019 o \u2018espacio\u2019.
