El jueves, 26 de noviembre, tendr\u00e1 lugar un Workshop del Grupo BioKoinos dedicado a cuestiones actuales de Metaf\u00edsica Anal\u00edtica. El encuentro se celebrar\u00e1 de 15 a 18 h en el sal\u00f3n 217 de la Facultad de Filosof\u00eda (Edificio A) de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.<\/p>\n

El programa contar\u00e1 con las intervenciones de Sergi Oms (Universitat de Barcelona), nuestra compa\u00f1era Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Garc\u00eda Encinas<\/a><\/span> (Universidad de Granada y miembro de FiloLab), y Pablo Rychter (Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia).<\/p>\n

Sergi Oms: \u00abThe Property-Inheritance Problem\u00bb<\/p>\n

Suppose that a sculptor molds a statue out of a lump of clay. Under the supposition that the statue and the lump are two distinct objects standing in the constitution relation, the following question arises. The statue and the lump of clay, despite being distinct objects, do not seem to be distinct in the same way as the Sagrada Fam\u00edlia and Mars are, since they share an striking number of properties, such as weight, shape, color, texture, etc. One way to explain their similarity is by appealing to the idea that some properties are inherited by one object from another to which it stands in the constitution relation. This raises the following three questions, which constitute what we call the Property-Inheritance Problem: (i) What properties can be shared by objects in the constitution relation, whether in virtue of being in this relation or not? (ii) which of these properties can be inherited by one object from another?; and (iii) given two objects in the constitution relation and an inheritable property, when is it the case that one of them inherits the property from the other? After presenting and discussing the most relevant proposals offered to solve at least parts of this problem, we will propose our own attempt to solve it.<\/p>\n

Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Garc\u00eda Encinas: \u00abSobre la percepci\u00f3n de hechos modales\u00bb<\/p>\n

Hay una vieja tesis filos\u00f3fica, universalmente aceptada tanto por la tradici\u00f3n empirista como por la racionalista, que dicta que el conocimiento modal s\u00f3lo puede ser a priori. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, sin embargo, se ha venido estableciendo una nueva l\u00ednea de pensamiento que desaf\u00eda esta tesis. Aproximaciones m\u00e1s radicales (Bryant & Wilson 2024) sostienen que solo la ciencia puede ser garante de conocimiento modal metaf\u00edsico. Otras, m\u00e1s moderadas, mantienen que de ordinario razonamos modalmente y conocemos hechos modales mediante el reconocimiento de semejanzas en nuestro mundo que nos permiten seleccionar posibilidades (Roca-Royes 2017), o mediante ejercicios imaginativos que ponen en marcha razonamientos y creencias contraf\u00e1cticas (Williamson 2007, 2016). Voy a centrarme, sin embargo, en otra forma del desaf\u00edo a la tesis de la modalidad a priori. Considerar\u00e9 tres propuestas conforme a las cuales percibimos lo modal: i) Seg\u00fan Legg and Franklin (2017) percibimos hechos matem\u00e1ticos y su necesidad; ii) Seg\u00fan Strohminger (2015) y Vetter (2024) percibimos hechos modales al percibir nuestras habilidades y capacidades; iii) Y seg\u00fan Mart\u00ednez (2015) o Ichikawa (2016) ciertos mecanismos perceptivos nos permiten conocer hechos modales. Contra las conclusiones de todos ellos defender\u00e9 que, aunque percibimos hechos modales, no es posible conocer perceptualmente que son modales. A\u00f1adir la existencia de un mecanismo perceptual a tal fin es igualmente vano. Comparar\u00e9 estas \u00faltimas aproximaciones mecanicistas con la propuesta de Mumford (2021) de un mecanismo perceptual de hechos negativos, para argumentar que la tesis de que este mecanismo es perceptual es mero disfraz empirista de una capacidad que, de ser tal, s\u00f3lo puede ser a priori. De otro modo: todas estas propuestas son valiosas en tanto muestran c\u00f3mo es posible el conocimiento a posteriori de hechos modales. Sin embargo, no alcanzan a cuestionar la tesis del conocimiento a priori de su modalidad.<\/p>\n

Pablo Rychter: \u00abParadox and ambitious metaphysics\u00bb<\/p>\n

This paper addresses the general question of where and when paradox solving is good for metaphysical theorizing. I’ll consider different paradoxes or puzzles, but focus mainly on the on-going debate on the alleged puzzle of change, and on the problem of universals. My hypothesis is that paradoxes are useful to motivate conceptual work, both descriptive and revisionary, but less useful to motivate the more ambitious explanatory enterprises that have prevailed in recent years of metaphysical theorizing. This hypothesis will allow us to shift our attention from questions of the sort \u00abIs X a paradox?\u00bb to questions about whether X is useful to motivate a certain philosophical enterprise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
