\"\"I am a geneticist and evolutionary biologist working as Catedr\u00e1tico (professor) at the\u00a0Department of Genetics<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0University of Granada<\/a>, Spain.<\/p>\n

I graduated in 1990 in Biology at the University of Granada, where I also obtained my Ph.D. with a thesis on the genetic resources in a worldwide collection of\u00a0Annona cherimola<\/em>\u00a0cultivars, supervised by Luis Pascual (Dept. of Genetics) and Alberto Vargas (Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). After, I enjoyed a postdoc position in the Werren lab<\/a> in the Department of Biology of The University of Rochester (Rochester, NY, USA). I returned to the Department of Genetics (UGR) into the Evolutionary Genetics Group led by Professor Juan Pedro M. Camacho. In 2004, I began working with Prof. Jos\u00e9 M. G\u00f3mez on a long-term collaboration that catalyzed the formation of the EVOFLOR<\/a> group. During the academic year 2016\/17, I was visiting scholar in the Rothfels lab<\/a>\u00a0at the University of California – Berkeley.<\/p>\n

My current scientific interest is centered on the co-evolutionary process, both at genomic and ecological\/population levels. As a member of EVOFLOR<\/a>\u00a0(a CSIC-associated unit), I study the diffuse co-evolution among flowers and their pollinators, merging molecular genetics and modeling approaches. With the scientific project MORE<\/a> we have started to analyze the evolutionary role of the phenotypic plasticity in some species of the genus\u00a0Moricandia<\/em>\u00a0(Brassicaceae), how phenotypic plasticity expresses in functional and floral traits, and its importance to understanding the ecology and evolution of plants.<\/p>\n
