When a humanitarian crisis hits, medical supplies arrive fast. But what happens to the tonnes of plastic waste they leave behind?
On 4 November, our group has put this question to students in their last two years of high school, as part of Andalusia’s Science Week.
They have discovered ANIPH’s bio-based alternatives to fossil-based plastics, and the UGR team’s own contribution: bioprinted, biodegradable wound dressings made from natural polymers and probiotic-functionalised bacterial cellulose.
The highlight? A live 3D-printing demo 🔬
The activity has been conducted by Ana González and Pablo Alarcón. As always, it was a pleasure bringing science closer to a young audience.
