Research

The scientific activity of our research group focuses on the study of different aspects of mitochondrial biology:

1) we are working towards clarifying the role of mitochondria in different cellular processes, including aging.
2) we are interested in studying the pathophysiological consequences of mitochondrial dysfunction using cellular and animal models.
3) we are developing different approaches in order to find effective treatments for primary mitochondrial disorders and other mitochondrial-related diseases.

Within these general interests, we are currently studying the CoQ10 biosynthetic pathway and its regulation; the pathophysiological consequences of CoQ10 deficiency and the tissue-specific pathomechanisms; and therapeutic strategies for CoQ10 deficiencies mitochondrial.
