Smart Poqueira team presents a model to assess the economic value of Natural Parks at the R&D Management Conference 2023

The Smart Poqueira Team presented an innovative model to assess the economic value of Natural Parks using the Travel Cost methodology at the R&D Management Conference 2023. Julián Ignacio Urriza, together with Daniel Bolaños-Martinez, Juan Alberto Aragón-Correa and Blanca Luisa Delgado-Márquez from the University of Granada, Spain, presented the study.

On June 17, the R&D Management Conference 2023 was held at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide. This international event brings together academics and professionals interested in the study of research and development, technology management and innovation.

Under the slogan “Responsible and responsive innovation for a better future”, the conference’s main objective was to exchange ideas on how to transform industries so that the products and services of the future contribute to improving the world. It also sought to understand the social, ethical and environmental impact of research and innovation, and how these can really work for the benefit of society.

Within the framework of this congress, the Smart Poqueira Team presented its study entitled “An Innovative Model for Evaluating the Economic Value of Natural Parks Using the Travel-Cost Methodology”. The presentation was part of the session that addressed urban trajectories in the digital era and the reconfiguration of the urban environment from a “smart” perspective.

The research, developed by the Smart Poqueira Team in collaboration with the University of Granada, proposes a novel approach to assess the economic value of Natural Parks by using Travel Cost. This methodology allows understanding and quantifying the economic benefits that these natural spaces bring to society.

The model presented offers a valuable tool for decision making in the management of Natural Parks, promoting their conservation and sustainable development while assessing their economic impact.

The presentation of the study by the Smart Poqueira team generated great interest among conference attendees, who had the opportunity to discuss and share ideas on the importance of considering economic aspects in the valuation of Natural Parks. This research opens new perspectives for the management of these protected areas and promotes sustainable tourism in harmony with the natural environment.

The participation of the Smart Poqueira Team in the R&D Management Conference 2023 is evidence of its commitment to responsible research and innovation, and highlights its contribution to the development of solutions that promote a better future for all.
