Cultural Activities and Thematic Excursions

The City of Melilla is characterized by cultural fusion; its languages, gastronomy, temples and architecture are a true reflection of this. In addition, it has very valuable geostrategic, cultural, academic, social and political characteristics. With the MIXMESSE International Summer Doctoral School it is intended, in addition to holding seminars and workshops, we can transfer the attendees to an intercultural experience. Therefore, we will try to get into the culture, gastronomy, art of the City of Melilla.

ROUTE OF THE TEMPLES: IGLESIA DEL SAGRADO CORAZÓN, SINAGOGA CENTRAL Y MEZQUITA CENTRAL ACCOMPANIED BY LOCAL SPECIALIST GUIDES.​

Route of the Temples’, is a way through which the interior of the four sanctuaries of the different religious confessions is made known. The idea is to take a walk through the Or Zoruah Synagogue (Holy Light), the worship space of the Hebrew community; for the Mandir Hindu Temple, of the Hindu community; by one of the most important mosques, Zawiya Alawiya del Cerro de la Palma. The oldest church in the city, located in the historic precinct, La Purísima Concepción (1657). It can be highlighted a visit to the Church of the Sagrado Corazón, the Central Mosque.

Melilla Modernist City, accompanied by local specialist guides.

This modernist essence comes to Melilla from the hand of the architect Enrique Nieto, a disciple of Gaudí who at the beginning of the last century escaped from the shadow of the Catalan genius to unleash his imagination on the streets of this North African city. He did it for years at the service of the City Council, raising great tributes to urban architecture that have endowed Melilla with a very personal identity. The influence of Modernism even reaches the different religions of the city.

Sport Activities on the beach with professional professors from UGR.

Taking advantages of the amazing beaches that there are in Melilla, and of the Faculty of Education and Sport Science; specialized professors from UGR will prepare special sport activities in order to take advantage of the city at the same time, they are doing sport.

Melilla Monumental City, accompanied by local specialist guides

The city invites us to enjoy its historic center, known as ‘Melilla La Vieja’, the jewel in the crown, a perfectly preserved medieval city. It includes the fortified enclosure that began to be built in the 15th century on the rock that served as the seat of the ancient Rusadir of the Phoenicians and Romans, destroyed and rebuilt several times, throughout history, as a consequence of the invasions of vandals and Arabs, or the internal struggles of the Berber tribes. This monumental complex is made up of four enclosures separated by a moat or cut.

Sport Activities, Dramatized visits, Gastronomic route, and Music Shows

Interesting proposal as well as getting to know the history of Melilla through a tour of the first two fortified enclosures by the hand of various characters. Dressed in period clothing, they explain to the participants day-to-day passages of the city since the arrival of Pedro de Estopiñán in 1497.
