Analytical techniques

A wide range of sophisticated, modern analytical instrumentation is available to perform scientific research and assessments, offering reliable and practical solutions for processes related to the rehabilitation or conservation of buildings. The available equipment is located at the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology, at the Centro Andaluz del Medio Ambiente, or belongs to the Centro de Instrumentación Científica at the University of Granada, one of the best equipped research centers for physical-chemical analyses of materials in Spain.

Available analytical techniques include:

  • Polarised and fluorescence light microscopy
  • Scanning and high resolution transmission electron microscopy with microanalytical EDX
  • Environmental scanning electron microscopy
  • X-ray diffraction and fluorescence
  • Infrared spectroscopy
  • Thermal analysis (DSC, TG, DTA)
  • Mercury intrusion porosimetry
