Following the 1st International Conference on Contemporary Bilingual Lexicography held at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Granada on June 2023, we are pleased to announce the 2nd International Conference on Contemporary Bilingual Lexicography (BIL.LEX26). It will be held on 25-27 May 2026 at the same venue.
This conference continue the research into recent bilingual dictionaries, focusing on one of the gaps identified in studies of Spanish lexicography.
Taking into account the points described in Pablo Núñez 2021 (https://doi.org/10.17561/rilex.4.3, http://hdl.handle.net/10481/72233) about marginalised languages in the historiography of Spanish lexicography, this conference aims to promote studies on recent bilingual lexicography of Spanish with other non-majority languages.
– Overall or cuantitative studies on the recent lexicography of Spanish and other non-majority languages (preferably works published from the 1990s to the present day).
– Panoramic studies (with the possibility of including earlier periods) on bilingual lexicography of Spanish with other Eastern European, Central European, Baltic or Scandinavian language(s).
– Comprehensive studies of contemporary bilingual lexicography of Spanish and other non-majority or non-Western languages (Asian, African, Oceanic ones), including periods from earlier eras if these have not previously been studied.
These will be the priority lines. However, studies analysing bilingual or multilingual lexicographical repertoires with Spanish that have been no studied, especially manuscripts, as well as other aspects on recent bilingual lexicography of Spanish with minority languages not necessarily historiographical–such as editorial and commercial aspects, or lexicographers’ careers–could be proposed.
Studies on current digital lexicography in Spanish and the use of AI may also be accepted.
As there are other specific conferences for the study of Missionary Linguistics, bilingual lexicographies of Spanish with Amerindian languages are excluded here, excepted panoramic studies on recent bilingual lexicography (1990s onwards) which could be proposed.
The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20, so proposals received will be evaluated and those most relevant to the lines proposed will be selected. The selection of the papers will be carried out by a process of blind peer review by the Scientific Committee of the Conference.
A link will be provided to enable online communication and to facilitate virtual attendance at the event.
The conference will be held at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Granada on 26 and 27 May 2026. It is the organisation’s will that there will be more conferences on bilingual Spanish Lexicography in future years.
Participation as a speaker is free of charge.
Attendance at the conference is also free of charge, subject to prior registration via email luispablo@go.ugr.es.
Papers will be published, after a selection and peer review process, as a monograph in a high quality journal or as a monograph in a well-positioned publishing house.
The conference is accompanied by the bibliographic exhibition ‘The Dictionaries of the Royal Spanish Academy: Academic Work through its Dictionaries’ at the Library of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, which features copies of works published by this institution, as well as other works produced by academic institutions belonging to ASALE, alongside examples of some lexicographical studies.
