Call for Course proposals at the 31st Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium

The Organizing Committee of 31st Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium, requests course proposals for the next 31st Colloquium to be held at IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, from July 30 – August 5, 2017. Two categories of courses will be considered: introductory and advanced.

Advanced Courses should focus on current research topics and should be designed for advanced graduate students and researchers. These courses should be designed as five-hour courses (five 60-minute lectures).

Introductory Courses should address topics accessible to undergraduate students and should depend on as little background as possible. Furthermore, they should focus on subjects not usually covered in standard undergraduate courses. These courses should be seven and a half hours long (5 lectures of 90 minutes each); besides expository lectures, exercise classes should be planned. The lectures are in general expected to be given in Portuguese.

Extended lecture notes must be prepared for both the Introductory Courses and the Advanced Courses.

In order to submit a proposal, please send its details to the Office of the 31st Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium, at coloquio@impa.br. The deadline for proposals is November 15th , 2016. Proposals should contain the information below.

  1. Title of the course
  2. Category (Introductory or Advanced)
  3. Authors and assistants for the exercise classes
  4. Detailed description: aims of the course, for whom the course is targeted, course contents, proposed chapter and section distribution of the lecture notes, bibliography
  5. Prerequisites
  6. Any other information deemed relevant

Proposals will be refereed and the result of the selection process will be announced by December 10th, 2016. The lecture notes from the accepted courses should be prepared with a specific LaTeX package produced for this purpose, to be made available to the authors at Colloquium´s page. The camera-ready copy of the lecture notes should be turned in by May 10, 2017, at coloquio@impa.br.
