El 20 de abril de 2022, Cristóbal Lozano y Teresa Quesada, dos miembros del equipo BM UGR participaron en las Jornadas Científicas del colegio la Asunción en Granada. Estas jornadas tienen el objetivo de presentar la ciencia a estudiantes de secundaria de un modo accesible y entretenido.
Cristóbal y Teresa visitaron las clases de 1º de ESO y les enseñaron a los estudiantes que el científico no solo investiga física o química, sino que podemos investigar el lenguaje. Además, hay otros instrumentos científicos aparte de microscopios o probetas para investigar. De hecho, nuestro equipo mostró cómo podemos investigar el lenguaje con experimentos utilizando simplemente un ordenador.
Los estudiantes fueron los protagonistas de estas sesiones ya que fueron nuestros “sujetos experimentales”. Realizaron varios experimentos y reflexionaron sobre lo que ocurría en cada uno de ellos. Al final de la sesión pudieron corroborar la importancia de investigar algo tan aparentemente sencillo como el lenguaje y entendieron que es algo clave para conocer cómo funciona la mente de los bilingües.
On 20 April 2022, Cristóbal Lozano and Teresa Quesada, two members of the BM UGR team participated in the “Science Days” at the Asunción School in Granada. The aim of these seminars was to present science to secondary school students in an accessible and entertaining way.
Cristóbal and Teresa visited two classes of secondary education and showed the students that scientists do not only investigate physics or chemistry, but can also investigate language. In addition, there are other scientific instruments other than microscopes or test tubes to investigate. In fact, our team showed how we can investigate language with experiments using just a computer.
The students were the protagonists of these sessions as they were our “experimental subjects”. They carried out several experiments and reflected on what happened in each of them. At the end of the session, they were able to corroborate the importance of investigating something as apparently simple as language and understood that it is key to understanding how the bilingual mind works.
