María José Frápolli Sanz is a Full Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the Department of Philosophy I of the University of Granada. She is the Communication Manager of the Unit of Excellence on controversies and public debates FiloLab. She has been the President of the Spanish Society of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science from 2006 to 2012. She was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Department of Philosophy at the University College London (United Kingdom) from 2015 to 2017. She is currently one of the organizers of the Society for Women Philosophers (Analytic) at the University of Granada.  Her main areas of expertise are Philosophy of Logic, Philosophy of Language and Philosophy of Mathematics.

Areas of research

Her research is based on a pragmatist and naturalist approach that is common to all her fields of expertise. It is pragmatist because it is grounded on the thesis that the meaning of the terms and the semantic content depend on their use and on the correction of material inferences. It is also naturalist but not reductionist because it assumes in essence that we belong to the natural world. The combination of pragmatism and naturalism results in a non-Cartesian perspective where the sceptic’s challenge, which has played an important role in modern philosophy, becomes innocuous. The philosophers that have influenced her research are, among others, Gottlob Frege, Frank P. Ramsey, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Susan Haack and Robert Brandom.
