La relación entre política y moral ha intrigado a pensadores desde Sócrates hasta Maquiavelo, Hobbes o Hannah Arendt, y ha sido un tema de preocupación práctica para los servidores públicos y la gente en general a lo largo de los siglos. En los últimos años, el debate filosófico sobre esta cuestión ha experimentado un renacimiento en la tradición analítica tras la publicación en 2005 del libro póstumo de Bernard Williams In the Beginning was the Deed: Realism and Moralism in Political Argument. La relación entre ética y política ha sido desde entonces un tema central de discusión entre realistas políticos, moralistas políticos y defensores de otras posiciones, aunque este no es el único contexto teórico en el que el tema suscita animados debates. Además, esta cuestión puede ser abordada en varios niveles de abstracción, desde el ámbito metafilosófico hasta el más aplicado.
En este congreso internacional, que se celebrará los días 10, 11 y 12 de mayo, pretendemos reunir a filósofos, teóricos políticos y académicos de campos afines y tradiciones diversas en torno a una reflexión sobre la relación entre ética y política que tomaría forma en las siguientes preguntas:
- ¿Cuál es y debería ser el rol de la ética en la política?
- ¿Cuál es la relación entre filosofía moral y filosofía política?
- ¿Existe una normatividad específicamente política?
- ¿Cómo afecta la comprensión de al relación entre política y moralidad a los debates sostenidos tradicionalmente en la ética aplicada?
- ¿Cómo deben concebirse la política y la filosofía política?

The relationship between politics and morality has puzzled thinkers from Socrates to Machiavelli, Hobbes, or Hannah Arendt, and has been a matter of practical concern for public servants and people in general down de centuries. In recent years, the philosophical debate on this topic has known a revival in the analytical tradition following the publication in 2005 of Bernard Williams’ posthumous book In the Beginning was the Deed: Realism and Moralism in Political Argument. The relationship between ethics and politics has been since a central topic of discussion between political realists, political moralists, and defenders of other stances, although this is not the only theoretical context in which the issue provokes lively debates. Besides, the topic can be addressed at various levels of abstraction, from the metaphilosophical to the most applied.
In this conference, which will take place during 10, 11 and 12 may, we intend to gather philosophers, political theorists, and scholars from related fields and diverse traditions around a reflection on the relationship between ethics and politics that would take shape in the following questions:
• What is, and should be, the role of ethics in politics?
• What is the relationship between moral philosophy and political philosophy?
• Is there a distinctively political normativity?
• How does the understanding of the relationship between politics and morality affects the debates traditionally held within applied ethics?
• How politics and political philosophy ought to be conceived?
