The workshop, organized by research projects PID2023-152118NB-I00 & PID2024-155717NB-I00, explores the role of imagination in metaphysics, focusing on how imaginative practices contribute to the constitution, discovery, or articulation of different kinds of objects. Imagination appears central to domains that involve entities whose ontological status is contested or complex, such as fictional characters, hypothetical scientific entities, psychiatric conditions, or socially constructed objects. The goal of the workshop is to clarify the epistemic and metaphysical roles imagination plays across these domains, and to assess whether imagination merely provides heuristic access to independently existing possibilities or whether it actively participates in bringing certain kinds of objects into being. By comparing these different cases, the workshop aims to shed light on the broader relationship between imagination, modality, and ontology.
